Job Description – Builder

Builder is a professional responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing construction projects, from small-scale residential buildings to large commercial and industrial structures. Builders ensure that construction work is carried out according to design specifications, safety regulations, budget, and timelines. They work closely with architects, engineers, contractors, and clients to deliver high-quality structures that meet functional and aesthetic requirements.

Key Responsibilities of a Builder

1. Planning and Preparation

·         Interpret architectural drawings, blueprints, and specifications.  Estimate costs for materials, labour, and equipment required for the project.  Develop construction schedules and allocate resources efficiently. Arrange permits, approvals, and ensure compliance with local building codes and regulations.  Coordinate with architects, surveyors, and engineers before construction begins.



2. Site Management and Supervision

·         Set out and prepare construction sites before work begins. 

            Supervise and guide construction workers, subcontractors, and tradespeople.

·         Ensure all safety protocols, PPE (personal protective equipment), and health regulations are strictly followed on-site.

·         Inspect ongoing work to ensure it meets quality standards and design specifications.

·         Resolve on-site problems quickly to minimize delays.

3. Construction Work

·         Carry out practical construction tasks such as bricklaying, carpentry, concrete work, roofing, and finishing (depending on expertise).

·         Install structural elements including walls, floors, and roofs.

·         Mix and pour concrete, lay foundations, and carry out repair or renovation work.

·         Measure, cut, and assemble building materials.

·         Operate hand tools, power tools, and heavy machinery when required.

4. Material and Resource Management

·         Source and procure construction materials at the best possible cost.

·         Check the quality of materials delivered on-site.

·         Manage storage of equipment and materials to avoid wastage or theft.

·         Ensure efficient use of resources and minimize project costs.

5. Communication and Coordination

·         Liaise with clients to understand their requirements and update them on progress.
